Forest Wilderness

The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness ~ John Muir

RainbowCon 2014 is coming down to a close and I have a busy schedule planned. I am attending two more roundtables this morning and sitting on another one later today. As soon as the panel is done at 2 PM, it will be time to shuttle to the airport.

I’ll busy this week on the blogosphere as well. I’ll be with Joyfully Jay on Tuesday, Erato- GLBT on Thursday, and then Friday I’ll be hosting Max Vos and his new release.

Make it a great week everyone!

This the last day to get #APTCTO and #disappearwithme on sale!

Melt into the Earth!

Here’s to lying on the floor and feeling the stress of the body melt into the earth ~ Jill Badonsky

Six months ago when I registered for RainbowCon, I was excited and happy to be going. I was in the midst of edits for Disappear With Me, preparing for the holidays around our house, it was the furthest from my mind at the moment.

But now the time has come and I am here. I can’t hardly believe it! I have met so many people with whom I had only had a Facebook connection before! It’s great to network with others, ask what works for them, and the Con hasn’t even officially started yet. I still have a reading cut to prepare, two panels to sit on and author Q&A session.

It’s amazing that an actual dream is coming true for me this weekend! I am getting ready to experience something I’ve only ever imagined in my head before. I can’t wait to continue to meet folks and get additional advice to make my writing better. A friend at work said I’m going to loathe next week at work because all I’ll want to do is sit and write after all the great advice I hear and pick up on this weekend.

What step in your dream journey are you taking this weekend?

Because I am here at RainbowCon, you can take advantage of the sale on A Place to Call Their Own and Disappear With Me!

Mastery of Oneself

One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself ~ Leonardo Da Vinci

Although I run to my friend Pam at work whenever there’s been exciting news on the publishing front, soon after calling my husband and parents, for the most part I try to remain calm about such things. When I registered six months ago for RainbowCon, I was excited to register as an attending author, I was happy to have come up with the registration fee and that I made the list.

Tomorrow I fly to Tampa and boy am I freaking out! I mean, I am going to my first Con as a published author! I have to do a public reading. The only other time I’ve done this has been in my living room for the launch of A Place to Call Their Own. That was just in front of close family and friends. This will be in front of 300 conference attendees!

So wish me luck! I’m sure I’ll be okay and this all just jitters from attending my first Con. Not only do I hope to meet all the people I’ve made friends with through on Facebook, but also introduce some new readers to #APTCTO and #disapperawithme.

How do you handle the jitters on year dream journey?

Time's Fun!

Time’s fun when you’re having flies ~ Kermit the Frog

I am gearing up to attend my very first conference as a writer! Rainbow Con 2014 is in Tampa, FL April 17 - 20.

I registered back in October, maybe early November, and April seemed a long ways away. At the time, Disappear With Me was going through the editing process in preparation for its release in December. I was getting my first Amazon and Barnes and Noble sales results from A Place to Call Their Own.

I can’t believe I’m only two weeks away from going! I’ve met so many of the authors going through Facebook and Twitter. I have a “flight buddy” leaving the same time as I from the Kansas City airport. I have roommate lines up to defray hotel costs (Thomas was going to go, but he can’t get the time off because of the time he needed in January). Arrangements have been made at work.

I have three goals for the conference. The first one is to reach more m/m readers. I can always use more readers. My second goal is to connect with other m/m writers. I have an extensive network of author friends and I can’t wait to meet them and pick their brains. My final goal is to attend some of the writer’s sessions to improve my own writing. And for those of you who follow my blog, I will be getting up plenty early to get my writing and blogging done before most the days’ activities begin.

If you’re a writer, what do you like about conventions?

If you’re a reader, do you like to attend literary conventions and why?

I can’t wait to hear all your answers.

Your Best Self Makes Your Best Stuff

When you're settled and still, that's the best way to create because your best self makes your best stuff ~ Bobby McFerrin

I just made my rooming arrangements for Rainbow Con, for readers and writers of LGBT fiction. I was just telling my roommate that all I'm low-key and I just need a quiet place to read, write, and sleep. I plan on spending most of my time at the Con.

One thing I can't compromise on is the time of day that I do my writing. I have to write in the morning when I first wake up. That's when I am my best self for writing and that's the only time I can be productive. I have tried to do some in the morning and some in the evening after work, it's never as satisfying for me as getting up and getting it done.

Now I am taking a bit of a break this week because of the time change. I am sleeping in a bit and not worrying about my word count goals. I planned for the break this week in my over all time frame for finishing up The Higher Law.

What's one routine boundary you can't break yourself?
