Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith on your dream journey. When I quit smoking and went to school I had a definite plan laid out before I started. But when I started writing novels, I just starting writing.

That was a leap of faith I started five years ago. I learned not only about writing, but plotting and character development along the way. I built social networks and my blog. It's been an uphill battle.

I continue to navigate through the publishing industry.  My first novel is published and second manuscript is completed. A third manuscript is under construction. I continue to take leaps in the dark.

Was last week a full moon week or what? Even worse, it was a blue moon!  No, the moon wasn't blue in color (on Wednesday night it was a eery reddish orange from my view in the Midwest).

It was a seasonal blue moon, but a crazy time none the less. Work was crazy busy and just plain crazy this week. I had a horrible personal schedule in the mornings this week and people's moods were just plain nuts. 

But the good thing about the week was finding a new plot point for a future work. Would you read a story about someone who messed up in one blue moon and then worked at fixing everything that climaxes at the next?

What Did It Feel Like?

You write the first draft with your heart. You re-write with your head ~ Finding Forrester

Are there any "older" movies out there that you always meant to watch but just haven't gotten around to the them? When you did, were you ever like, How come I haven't seen that yet?

Finding Forrester is one of those for me. I remember getting the DVD from Netflix but I don't remember why I never sat down and watched it all the way through. Last night I finally got to it. Maybe if I would have seen it in 2000 it came out I would have started writing sooner?  There's a reason for everything.

I started bawling when Jamal asks William "How did it feel to write those books?" Well, Jamal, let me tell you it's pretty wonderful. It's like asking someone in Direct Sales, how did it feel when you first became a Director or small business owner, how did if feel when you made your first profit.  The feeling is nearly indescribable. (And for the record, yes, I bawled throughout the rest of the movie, when he's vindicated and at the very end.)

And it's that feeling that keeps me going. I've started my third novel and it's going great. I continue to trudge through the daily task of writing and editing. Now I have the extra pressure to have something ready for my critique group each week. Just that goal keeps me going each week.

Be Daring, Be Different

Even thought I don't have kids, I love back to school. It's another "New Year" for me and a chance to get focused on goals for the rest of the year.  The warm summer weather and other activities can be distracting, so the back to school activities seem to help get me focused.

Correct Your Mind

When you correct your mind, everything else will fall into place ~ Lao Tzu

Even as you start to achieve milestone goals, negative thoughts can still creep into your dream journey. Like the quote says, I've found that correcting my mind always helps me move forward.

I've been working hard at positive self talk for along time, over twenty years. I still have my moments of insecurity and negativity that requires me to refocus. What helps me is to peel away the negative comments and tones to try to understand the intended message.  That can be hard and frustrating sometimes, but it's easier to move forward.

Listen for the intended message, tune out negative and extraneous comments, and I'm sure you'll be able to learn from the message.

Don't Take it Too Seriously

Don't take it or yourself too seriously--it's just life. You're allowed to make mistakes, screw things up and fall down (which everyone does and always will). Be kind to yourself in this process. Remember your intentions (those states of being and your authentic desires) are what you're truly after, not the specific outcomes or actions ~ Mike Robbins

I post a lot about developing routines and boundaries and sticking to those routines. Routines are how I get things done; boundaries keep me from ignoring the other parts of my life.

None of it matters if you're aren't having fun. The whole point of my dream journey is to possibly change careers to do something more enjoyable from home. But if it's not fun building the business, then it's not going to be enjoyable when you're able to quit working a full time job.

Some may argue that it will be better once you are doing it full-time, but think about it.  If something is bothering you when you're only doing it part-time, imagine the bother when you do it full time?

In my experience, not all stress or "not having fun" times are bad. You need those along the way to appreciate the good the times.  Just don't take things too seriously when you hit those bumps. For me that usually means it is time to slow for just a bit.
